SUBJECT: PSA: Reading by prize-winning author
DATE: October 14, 2008
Jake MacDonald, the winner of the 2002 Writers’ Trust of Canada Prize for Non-Fiction, is scheduled to read at Memorial University next Tuesday,
Oct. 21.
A Manitoba author who writes about wilderness and the people who live there, the Globe and Mail has said of him that “he comes across as the sort of person you'd like to know, not just because he could tell a great after dinner story, but because he reassures you that it is possible to see how lovely the world can be without turning one's back on it.”
The author of eight books of fiction and non-fiction, including the Writers’ Trust winner Houseboat Chronicles, Mr. MacDonald’s latest book is With the Boys: Field Notes on Being a Guy, a collection of true stories about men gathering in the outdoors – caribou hunting, fishing, flying in helicopters, among other male bonding excursions.
The reading is open to the public and will take place at 7:30 p.m. next Tuesday, Oct. 21 at Petro Canada Hall. Admission is free as is parking in Lot 15.
The reading is sponsored by the Canada Council for the Arts and hosted by the Pratt Committee with the support of the Office of the Dean of Arts. Mr. MacDonald is also giving a reading next Monday, Oct. 20 at the Holyrood Public Library at 7:30 p.m.
