SUBJECT: PSA: Harris Centre to host public event on the link between education and employment on the Baccalieu Trail

Memorial University’s Leslie Harris Centre of Regional Policy and Development and the Mariner Resource Opportunities Network are hosting a public meeting at Fong’s Motel in Carbonear on Monday, Nov. 17, to discuss how the Baccalieu Trail school system can be adapted to better respond to the labour market needs of the region. It begins at 7 p.m. and admission is free with a reception to follow. Guest speaker will be Dr. Gerald Galway of Memorial University’s Faculty of Education and former assistant deputy minister of education for Newfoundland and Labrador.
This public session will be followed by a workshop the following day at Fong’s Motel, where local leaders and stakeholders can meet with representatives from Memorial University to identify new collaborations. This workshop, which goes from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., is open to the general public and registration is free. Breakfast, lunch and nutrition breaks will be provided by the Harris Centre.
