SUBJECT: Grenfell: Constructed & Natural - ARTS & CULTURE CENTER CORNER BROOK
DATE: March 5, 2009
OPENING MARCH 9, 4:00 - 7:00 PM
Fourth year Visual Arts student at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, Jonathan Cohlmeyer is displaying his work in a solo show titled Form: Constructed & Natural at the Corner Brook Arts & Culture Center, March 9-31. A Corner Brook native, Cohlmeyer has shown in Harlow, England as part of the exhibition, Art in a Suitcase, as well as other group exhibitions including: The (un)Resolved Component, and 123 Art! (SWGC Art Gallery).
As an athlete and artist Jonathan is interested in nature, as represented by this body of work. A dichotomy has been created between the natural and constructed world. This dichotomy divorces humans from the natural world and often serves as a justification for many hurtful practices. This body of work shows similarities between the forms found in the natural surroundings of forests and the constructed forms of architecture.
