SUBJECT: Grenfell: April Rabbit celebrates 10th anniversary; coincides with international poetry anthology book launch

DATE: April 15, 2009

Another rascally rabbit will appear at the Blackthorn Stick Café, April 25th at 8 p.m.
The April Rabbit follows in the footsteps of the annual March Hare event, which showcases the talents of local, national and international poets, writers and musicians.
The April Rabbit consists of up-and-coming performers, the majority of whom are connected to Sir Wilfred Grenfell College. It also has a new – and hopefully permanent – home this year: the newly opened Blackthorn Stick Café on Broadway.
2009 not only marks the 10th anniversary of the April Rabbit, but also a first for the event – two Canadian poets featured in a new poetry anthology will participate as guest readers.
Brenda Leifso and Matter Rader are both included in the anthology How the Light Gets In, published by Dr. John Ennis and the Waterford Institute of Technology.
The anthology will be launched earlier in the day at 3 p.m., also at the Blackthorn Stick Café.
“This is an excellent opportunity for people to meet some of the talented writers and musicians who live or study in Corner Brook as well as the chance to see two of Canada’s rising poets,” said event organizer Doug Gough. “I encourage the public to come out for an evening of word and song.”
ID for 19 is required at the event. Admission is free.
