SUBJECT: PSA: Public lecture to discuss strengths and weaknesses of scientific worldview

DATE: February 18, 2008

Can something be real if you can’t see it, touch it, taste it? Arthur Sullivan and Stephen Gardner from the Memorial University Philosophy Department discuss that question (among many others) when they deliver the St. John’s Public Lecture in Philosophy on Tues., Feb. 26 at 8:30 p.m. at The Ship Pub off Duckworth Street.
Drs. Sullivan and Gardner will examine the concept that all reality is physical, composed of material or physical particles or other “stuff”. Physicalists therefore deny the existence of immaterial spirits or souls, for example. After the talk, there will be an opportunity for discussion.
