SUBJECT: ACE Memorial wins regional competition, moves on to nationals

ACE Memorial, two time national champions and international runners up in the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) World Cup, has won the 2008 ACE Regional Exposition, earning a berth in the ACE National Exposition in Toronto on May 12 to 14.
ACE Memorial students won two events, the HSBC SIFE Financial Education Challenge and the TD SIFE Entrepreneurship Challenge.
The team competing in the HSBC SIFE Financial Education Challenge focused on their programs that impact elementary school students, high school students and seniors. The team competing in the TD SIFE Entrepreneurship Challenge based their presentation on LaunchPad, the first and only student-run incubation centre for students in Canada.
“I am extremely proud of our ACE Memorial students. This group is dedicated to improving their community through entrepreneurship and their success in competition reflects the success they’ve had with their innovative programs,” said Dr. Gary Gorman, dean of the Faculty of Business
Administration. “I am sure they will represent our faculty, university and province well in the national competition.”
The ACE Regional Exposition took place March 6 and 7 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with over 200 students, faculty, alumni, business professionals and supporters from all over Atlantic Canada participating.
Another ACE team from Newfoundland, from the College of the North Atlantic – Grand Falls Windsor, also won the Entrepreneurship Challenge.
ACE Memorial students who competed in the 2008 Regional Exposition include Heather Comerford (president), Haroon Iqbal (vice-president), Sarah Fisher, Lisa Smart, Johnathon Earle, Cassidy Quinton, Nick Hounsell, Jessica Shannahan, Mark MacDonald, Liam Kelly, Dana Noseworthy, Lauren Tobin, Preston Aitken and Duncan deYoung. Lynn Morrissey, professor in the Faculty of Business, is the ACE Memorial Faculty Advisor.
ACE Memorial is a group of dedicated business students at Memorial University who develop and implement entrepreneurial programs to help Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. They have won numerous awards, including two ACE National Championships, second place in the SIFE World Cup, the Excellence in Fostering Entrepreneurship Award from the Newfoundland and Labrador Regional Economic Development Association and numerous program and individual awards from ACE Canada.
