Have you ever wondered . . . about the impacts of home heating oil leaks?
Do you use oil to heat your home? If so, you have an oil tank and may have heard stories (or tall tales?) about oil spills and the costs and impacts of cleaning up. Some have probably wondered “what all the fuss was about since it’s only going back into the ground where it came from”.
Underground fuel storage tanks and their impact on the environment has been a source of concern since the 1990s. The issues associated with leaky residential fuel oil storage tanks include insurance, legal, regulatory, tank design and installation codes to the nuts and bolts of doing the work to “make it clean”.
For more than 10 years, Bill Scott has been involved in designing tanks and investigating and cleaning up spills. Now employed with fga Consulting Engineers Limited in St. John's, his work has taken him to Brazil, Japan, China and the United States of America as he works to design and integrate the environmental parameters that impact on society.
Come and hear some of the real facts about what this damage does to the environment as Bill shares his experiences and knowledge concerning his work.
The event, hosted by the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial University and the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador, will be held on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at 7:30 p.m., in the S. J. Carew Building lecture theatre, room EN-2006, on Memorial’s St. John’s campus. Admission is free. Parking is available in Lot 16.
