SUBJECT: PSA: Memorial group hosts general meeting and forum on blood disorders

Members of the general public are welcome to attend a general meeting and special forum being hosted by the Newfoundland and Labrador Blood Disorders Education Network on Thursday, April 26, 2007, from 7-9 p.m. The meeting will take place in the main auditorium of the Health Sciences Centre.
The network is a project of the Hematology and Hemostasis Research Group at Memorial University. Its main goal is to raise awareness about disorders of the blood and the immune system in Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as the impact these disorders have on patients, their families and the professionals and volunteers who work in this field.
The meeting will include a special presentation by Dr. Kuljit Grewal, who teaches in Memorial’s Faculty of Medicine and is also the chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology with Eastern Health. He’ll deliver a talk entitled Update on Iron Overload – Hemochromatosis, Hereditary and Secondary to Multiple Transfusions. Meanwhile, Dr. Rick Singleton, regional director of Pastoral Care and Ethics with Eastern Health, will also present at the forum. His talk is entitled The Healing of Wounds and the Wounds of Healing.
