2006-2007
News Release
REF NO.: 76
SUBJECT: Preview presentation of Making Waves: An exhibition about life in The Battery
DATE: November 28, 2006
Note to editors:
This fall, graduate students in Memorial University’s Public Sector Folklore class worked in partnership with The Rooms Provincial Museum to develop an exhibit that takes a timely look at The Battery, a neighbourhood in radical transition. From fishing village to upscale neighbourhood, The Battery’s story echoes the dramatic social, cultural and economic changes occurring throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
Students have spent months gathering the stories, images, memories and meanings, and exploring questions of what is being lost and gained in this community. What they’ve discovered forms the bases of Making Waves: An exhibition about life in The Battery.
Members of the media are invited to attend a preview presentation of Making Waves on Thurs., Nov. 30 from 10-11 a.m. at The Rooms in the 2nd floor theatre.
The presentation will feature a computer-generated virtual walkthrough of The Battery, a DVD presentation with music, film and still images and a PowerPoint presentation with 3-D modeling of the proposed public exhibit, which is expected to open in the spring.
