REF NO.: 213
SUBJECT: Memorial University wins prestigious awards
DATE: June 13, 2007
It’s a hat trick for Memorial University of Newfoundland’s Division of Marketing and Communications – this time on the national stage.
The team picked up rave reviews and three national awards last week at a conference in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
The Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE) tagged several Marketing and Communications projects for top honours.
Memorial received a gold award for the best institutional website, another gold award for the MUNdays 2006 celebration, and a silver award for the Research Report.
Memorial launched its new presence on the web in December. The site reflects the new institutional brand which itself was launched last spring. MUNdays is an annual series of events at both the Corner Brook and St. John’s campuses that embraces creativity, diversity, community service and leadership at Memorial University. The Research Report is a comprehensive annual report on research activity at Memorial.
Employees Paul Whittle, Beth Ryan, Mark English, Dan Hyde and Andrew Winter were highlighted for their work on Memorial’s institutional website.
Meanwhile, Michael Pickard, Victoria Collins, Dr. Lilly Walker, Amanda Martin, Roxanne Keats and Gerry Sullivan were acknowledged for their work on MUNdays in the special event category.
And, finally, Deborah Inkpen, Helen Houston and Chris Hammond were singled out for their work on Research Matters.
The CCAE is the professional association for educational advancement professionals in Canada.
The trio of awards builds on the other top awards Marketing and Communications has accepted recently. The provincial chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) also singled out Marketing and Communications at a recent awards ceremony at its Pinnacle Awards ceremony on May 24 in St. John’s.
Memorial won in the Annual Reports category for the 2006 president’s report, while Marketing and Communications and the Office of Student Recruitment won in the Brochures/Special Publications category for Student Recruitment’s Viewbook 2007.
The Communicator, Memorial’s employee newsletter, won an award of merit in the Newsletters category.
And, Ivan Muzychka, Memorial’s associate director (communications) was presented with the prestigious 2007 Communications Professional Award of Excellence
The IABC is an international network of communications professionals. There are 13,000 members in more than 70 countries.
