Have you ever wondered…what’s happening with the Lower Churchill development?
The Lower Churchill hydroelectric resource is a significant untapped long-term source of clean, renewable energy that has the potential to make a significant contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from power generation in Canada – possibly producing enough energy to supply up to 1.4 million households annually and displace an estimated 16 mega tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
Join Gilbert Bennett, vice-president, Lower Churchill project and vice-president Engineering Services (acting) with Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro, for an update on his organization’s move towards an expanded mandate to pursue new energy opportunities. Hear an overview of the Lower Churchill hydro-electric resource and an update on the proposed Lower Churchill development. He will also provide an update on what work is currently underway as well as what’s happening in 2006. Gilbert Bennett, an alumnus of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, is a member of the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador with a degree in electrical engineering from Memorial University, and is a recipient of numerous academic awards for engineering excellence.
The event, hosted by the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial University and the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador, will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2006, at 7:30 p.m., in the S. J. Carew Building lecture theatre, room EN-2006, on Memorial’s St. John’s campus. Admission is free. Parking is available in Lot 16. All are welcome. Reception will follow.
