SUBJECT: PSA: Cognitive Science Lecture Series starts this week at Memorial

Memorial University’s Department of Philosophy will launch a new interdisciplinary Cognitive Science Lecture Series on Thurs., Sept. 15. The lectures will be held in the Arts and Administration Building Annex in room AA-1045 starting at 12 p.m.Members of the general public are invited to attend.
Cognitive science is the study of the mind, intelligence and information. It’s an increasingly popular area that is studied in numerous disciplines including computer science, linguistics, psychology, and philosophy, to name just a few. This interdisciplinary lecture series brings together faculty and researchers from across Memorial to share their perspectives and findings on the topic. The schedule for this fall is as follows:
Sept. 15: Todd Wareham (Computer Science) The Role of Computational Complexity in Cognitive Modeling
Sept. 29: Carole Peterson (Psychology) Talking with Children
Oct. 13: David Thompson (Philosophy) What puts the ‘Cognitive’ in Cognitive Science?
Oct. 27: Phil Branigan (Linguistics) How Languages Agree: A Case Study in Comparative Syntax
Nov. 10: Ed Brown (Computer Science) Scientific Discovery as Computation
Nov. 24: Cathy Penny (Psychology) The Interactive Development of Literacy and Phonological Awareness
