SUBJECT: President's Lecture Series on Collaborative Health and Research continues on March 16, 2006

Memorial University has responded to one of the requests contained in the White Paper issued last summer by the provincial government by forming a Committee on Collaborative Health Professional Education and Research. President Axel Meisen said the committee is seeking optimal ways and means of promoting what is known as inter-professional education and research.
Part of the work of the committee includes a lecture series – the President’s Lecture Series on Collaborative Health and Research – aimed at informing the campus community and the general public about the growing awareness of the benefits of inter-professional education and research. These lectures – taking place in March – will focus on the relation of such collaborations to the provision of optimally effective primary health care services to the increasingly elderly and widely dispersed people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The second lecture in this series will be given by Jessica Diamond, Strategic Initiatives Branch/Best Start Team, Ministry of Children and Youth Services based in Toronto, Ontario. Ms. Diamond’s lecture is titled Learning Together to Work Together: Enhancing Inter-professional Education Experiences and takes place on Thursday, March 16, at 5 p.m. in the Main Auditorium, Health Science Centre.
Biographical Notes -- Jessica Diamond, B.A., B.S.W.
Jessica Diamond is a recent graduate of McMaster University. She is currently Co-Director of the Ontario Association of Social Workers, Central Ontario Branch, and was the Student Director of the same organization from 2003-2005. She was also a Co-Chair of the New Health Professionals Network (NHPN), and organization dedicated to strengthening Medicare and highlighting the need for interdisciplinary, team-based health care. She has recently had articles on her experiences with the NHPN, interdisciplinary health care and health human resources published in Healthcare Quarterly and the Canadian Journal of Nursing Leadership, and was a presenter at the Health Council of Canada’s National Summit on Health Human Resources in June 2005. Jessica is currently an Ontario Public Service Intern specializing in policy development
