SUBJECT: Famous computer scientist comes to Memorial University

World-renowned computer scientist and mathematician Dr. Lotfi Zadeh of the University of California at Berkeley will present a special lecture at Memorial University next week.
Dr. Zadeh will deliver a talk titled From Search Engines to Question-Answer Systems: The Problems of World Knowledge, Relevance, Deduction and Precisiation on Wednesday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m. in room IIC-2001 in the Inco Innovation Centre.
An alumnus of the University of Tehran, MIT and Columbia University, Dr. Zadeh has held visiting appointments at Stanford University and the IBM Research Laboratory in San Jose, California. He has taught at Berkeley since 1959.
Dr. Zadeh is most famous for his theory of fuzzy logic, a form of logic in which variables can have degrees of truth or falsehood. Fuzzy logic is widely applied in electronic appliances in daily use.
His lecture is being sponsored by the Department of Computer Science at Memorial University. Admission to the lecture is free. Parking is available in Area 18. Media agencies are encouraged to send representatives.
