SUBJECT: Dr. Elliott Leyton to give public lecture at Memorial University

Well-known anthropologist Dr. Elliott Leyton will give a public lecture – titled Dying Hard: Industrial Carnage in St. Lawrence Newfoundland– on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004. The lecture begins at 7 p.m. in room A-1043, in the Arts and Administration Building on Memorial’s St. John’s campus. The lecture is open to the public and there is no admission charge. Dr. Leyton’s lecture is sponsored by SafetyNet and the Centre for Applied Health Research. This lecture will explore changes in worker health and safety since the mining tragedy in St. Lawrence, Newfoundland. Elliott Leyton is a professor emeritus of Anthropology at Memorial Universityand has delivered lectures throughout Europe, the United Statesand Canada. Autographed copies of his updated and illustrated book Dying Hard will be available for purchase.
