SUBJECT: Memorial University to offer scholarships to National Science Fair gold medalists

Memorial University will recognize the outstanding achievements of eight individuals who participated in the Canada-wide science fair held on Memorial’s campus from June 13-21, 2004. Gold medals were awarded over six categories, resulting in a total of eight in the senior division with two groups participating as partners. The gold medal winners from each of the biotechnology, earth and environmental sciences, engineering and computing sciences, health sciences, life sciences and physical and mathematical sciences categories will each receive a tuition scholarship from Memorial for four years of study or eight semesters. The scholarship presentation will take place this afternoon, May 21, 2004 as part of the science fair awards ceremony scheduled for 1:30 to 3:30 p.m at the Arts and Culture Centre. The scholarship presentation will begin at approximately 2 p.m. Dr. Lilly Walker, Memorial’s director of Student Affairs and Services will be presenting. Media agencies are encouraged to send representatives.
