The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada was established as a result of the 2007 Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement. Its mandate is to tell Canadians about the 150-year history of the schools and its ongoing legacy, and to guide and inspire a process of reconciliation and renewed relationships based on mutual understanding and respect. On June 2nd, 2015, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) released its findings and calls to action following a six-year mandate. The Commissioners highlighted the role of education in reconciliation, and stressed the need to educate Canadians on residential schools and their impacts. The public forum will seek to do that – to inform and educate the Memorial community and the general public on the residential schools and their impacts from both a national and provincial perspective. Join Chief Wilton Littlechild, Toby Obed, Ches Crosbie, and Catharyn Andersen to create a dialogue around this history and its impact in contemporary society.
