This Award was established in memory of Diane Mintz by her daughter Kaila Mintz, husband Eric Mintz, and an extended circle of adoring family and friends. Originally from Ottawa, Diane completed her undergraduate degree in sociology and anthropology in 1991 through Memorial University’s distance education program. She was one of the first employees of the Corner Brook Women’s Centre and found great satisfaction in coordinating the establishment of the Centre, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024. Completing her Bachelor of Social Work in 1997, she became a professional social worker working in public and private practice in Corner Brook and throughout the western region of Newfoundland, focusing on addictions services. A tireless volunteer and community-minded advocate, Diane adopted Corner Brook as her chosen home and the community adopted her with open arms.

Award will be granted annually to a full-time undergraduate student in any year of study in any Bachelor of Social Work degree program at Memorial University of Newfoundland who will be traveling to rural Newfoundland and Labrador for their field practicum. Preference will be given to a student who chooses to complete their field practicum in the West Coast region of Newfoundland.
