About Me……
My research background is in Government Geoscience, and prior to taking early retirement in 2015, I was a senior geologist and program manager for Mineral Deposits Research at the Geological Survey of Newfoundland and Labrador (Department of Natural Resources). I have a long association with the Department of Earth Sciences at Memorial, including a previous adjunct appointment, and I have participated in many collaborative research projects. I have also contributed to the Department’s instructional program as a sessional lecturer and in the preparation of manuals and course materials.
My interests in Earth Science are very broad, but focused on Regional Geology, Igneous Petrology and Mineral Deposit Studies. I have a particular interest in field-based research, which I consider to be the true heart of the Geological Sciences. I am also interested in Geoscience Outreach and Geotourism, and in writing for non-specialists. I currently work with the Geological Association of Canada as the scientific editor of Geoscience Canada, and serve as an associate editor for Atlantic Geology.
