At Convocation, the Biochemistry Department presents the following prestigious awards to recognize exceptional graduating students:

University Medal for Academic Excellence in Biochemistry

Awarded to the graduating student in Biochemistry with the highest academic standing, as recommended by the Head of the Biochemistry Department and awarded by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships and Financial Aid.

University Medal for Academic Excellence in Biochemistry (Nutrition)

Given to the graduating student in Biochemistry (Nutrition) with the highest academic standing, following recommendation by the Head of the Biochemistry Department.

Society of Chemical Industry Merit Award in Biochemistry

This award is presented to the student graduating with Honours Biochemistry who achieves the highest standing. The recipient must maintain an overall average of at least 75%, complete the program in the standard duration, and be recommended by the Head of the Biochemistry Department. The award includes a gold key and a one-year subscription to Chemistry and Industry.

Grace Morgan Prize in Biochemistry (Nutrition)

Awarded to the student graduating in Honours Biochemistry (Nutrition) with the highest academic standing. The recipient must meet the 75% average requirement, complete the course program on time, and be recommended by the Head of the Biochemistry Department to the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships and Financial Aid.


Departmental Reception Awards

These awards are presented to outstanding students at the Departmental Reception:

Mookerjea Prize

Awarded to students who have been on the Dean's List throughout their program. This award recognizes both Honours and Majors students in Biochemistry or Biochemistry (Nutrition).

Head's Prize

Awarded to Honours students in Biochemistry or Biochemistry (Nutrition) who have achieved an 'A' grade in all BIOC courses (courses with a BIOC number).

Brosnan Prize

Presented to Honours students in a joint honours program who have received an 'A' grade in the 26 required courses of the program.

Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism - Undergraduate Research Excellence Award

Awarded to the Honours Biochemistry (Nutrition) student with the highest grade in their Honours thesis (Biochemistry 499B).
