Memorial University’s School of Music invites applications for a 9-month teaching term appointment in piano and piano pedagogy at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor. The appointment will begin on August 1, 2025, with the expectation that the successful candidate will be on campus for the start of Fall classes on September 9, 2025.
Duties will include instruction in applied piano and piano pedagogy at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and functional keyboard. Other teaching duties, in keeping with the expertise of the successful candidate, may be required.
Qualifications for the position include a doctorate in a relevant area (completed or ABD) or its equivalent in professional experience at national or international levels, demonstrated excellence as a performer of piano, and a record of successful teaching.
Memorial University is home to Atlantic Canada’s largest and most comprehensive school of music. At the undergraduate level the School offers Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music Joint with Bachelor of Commerce programs with concentrations in performance, musicologies, theory, composition, jazz studies and music education to 150 students from across Canada and around the world. At the graduate level, the School offers M.Mus. programs (conducting, performance, performance/pedagogy) and M.A./Ph.D. programs in ethnomusicology to more than 50 students from across the globe. The School’s faculty of 22 performers, composers, and scholars enjoy international reputations in their fields and are active partners across the province’s vibrant musical, artistic, and cultural communities.
