Dr. Cathy Balsom
She received her bachelor of science (pharmacy) from Memorial University in 2011 and Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) at the University of Florida in 2016.
Cathy joined the School of Pharmacy as the Working Professional Pharm.D. Program Coordinator in 2015 and has instructed lectures in Therapeutics on topics pertaining to Cardiology. Prior to this, she worked as a community pharmacist and enjoyed helping patients achieve their health goals and ensure they got the most benefit out of their drug therapy regimens. She has been actively involved in expanded scope activities such as Medication Reviews, Medication Management and Adherence Programs.
Cathy is currently registered with the Newfoundland and Labrador Pharmacy Board (NLPB) to administer drugs via injection and to prescribe for minor ailments, according to the guidelines found in the Standards of Pharmacy Practice.
As a pharmacist, she has thoroughly enjoyed developing relationships with patients in the community and working with other health professionals to improve patient outcomes. She has a special interest in cardiology and mental health as well as expanding the role of the pharmacist.
