Our Programs
Welcome to the English Department. Here you will encounter ideas, both new and old, and texts, both experimental and traditional. You will read some of the best works in literature and culture; you will engage in provocative conversations about meaning, history, the future, your identity, and your place in the world.
We offer degrees in English and Communication and Media Studies, Diplomas in Creative Writing and Stage and Screen Technique, and a Certificate in Film Studies.
All of our programs are designed to help you think critically, read closely, and write effectively. Whether you are pursuing a Major, a Minor, an Honours, or a Graduate degree, you will find a diverse range of courses taught by dynamic and engaging professors.
Important NEW information for ESL Students!
All undergraduate students who were required to submit a proof of English language proficiency score (IELTS, TOEFL, CAEL, etc.) must register for ENGL 1020 Writing for Second Language I. You no longer have to write the English Placement Test (EPT). Students may register for the course by using the self-service registration tool. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. Multiple sections of the course are offered in all three semesters of every year.
