Ocean Frontier Institute

The Ocean Frontier Institute is a major international ocean research initiative led by Memorial University of Newfoundland in partnership with Dalhousie University and the University of Prince Edward Island. Established to advance sustainable ocean development, the institute brings together researchers, industry, governments, Indigenous organizations and coastal communities to address some of the most pressing challenges facing the world’s oceans.

At Memorial University, the Ocean Frontier Institute strengthens the university’s role as a global leader in ocean research and innovation. It supports interdisciplinary collaboration across areas such as fisheries, climate change, marine conservation, ocean technology, offshore energy and coastal resilience. The institute also creates opportunities for students, researchers and community partners to engage in applied research that contributes to sustainable ocean economies and informed policy development.

Through large-scale research programs, international partnerships and community engagement initiatives, the Ocean Frontier Institute helps connect Memorial’s expertise with local, national and global ocean priorities.
