Dr. Bing Chen was appointed interim dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science (FEAS) effective Jan. 1, 2025, until Dec. 31, 2025.

Following a call for expressions of interest, the provost made the recommendation to the president who accepted the appointment on Dec. 23.

Dr. Chen is associate dean of graduate studies in FEAS and a renowned scholar, researcher and professor of environmental engineering who has made notable contributions to teaching, learning, research and community engagement efforts at Memorial. Incoming dean Dr. Octavia Dobre will begin in the dean role on Jan. 1, 2026, upon completion of a year of administrative leave during which she will be focused on her tier 1 Canada Research Chair program.
