Canada Research Chairs

The Canada Research Chairs Program was established by the Government of Canada in 2000 in order to enable Canadian universities to achieve the highest levels of research excellence for the benefit of all Canadians, and is committed to achieving a more equitable, diverse and inclusive Canadian research enterprise.

Through the Chairs Program, Memorial University’s Canada Research Chairs, provide us with opportunities to strengthen our research culture and reputation by retaining outstanding researchers and recruiting new faculty members with exceptional research records.

Memorial University follows the federally mandated requirements of the Canada Research Chairs Program. These include equity and diversity measures that all participating universities must meet in order to receive and maintain access to the Canada Research Chairs Program.

All candidates must meet rigorous standards of research excellence and are evaluated through both institutional and national peer-review processes. Targeted recruitment in some chair positions is part of those national requirements and is designed to address longstanding underrepresentation in academia.
