Collective bargaining update: May 19, 2022
During the last scheduled negotiation session May 12-13, 2022, the parties further reduced the number of issues that remain outstanding. The language in Article 30 Employment Equity has been substantially agreed upon and we have appropriately acknowledged a day of Truth and Reconciliation.
The University continues to impress upon MUNFA that ASMs should have a connection to the university community through a regular presence on the respective campuses and we have amended our position to reflect that this can be accomplished through ASMs being advised in job postings that there is an expectation that they maintain a primary residence if accepting an appointment.
Additionally, we have maintained our positon that Administrative Heads should have greater involvement in the appointment process. The current process provides that Administrative Heads appoint two representatives to the Search Committee (Committee); however, the next contact with the Committee is when the Administrative Head receives the short list of candidates. We have proposed that the Search Committee consult with the Administrative Head prior to finalizing the short list, providing an opportunity for dialogue. The language “consult with” is respective of the Committee’s role and is used throughout the collective agreement.
MUNFA submitted the remainder of its monetary proposal on May 12. We will carefully review the proposals with an attempt to find a resolution acceptable to both parties.
The parties have agreed to continue negotiations in early June.
