Bargaining update: Feb. 8, 2024
Memorial University and the Lecturers Union of Memorial University of Newfoundland (LUMUN) have been meeting with the aid of a provincial conciliator since spring 2023 on a revised collective agreement. LUMUN is the union representing per course instructors, who are individuals that teach up to two courses per semester in academic units across the university.
Meetings continued on Jan. 16, 17 and 31, and Feb. 1, 5 and 8, 2024. The Parties have been engaged in productive discussions during conciliation with the goal of successfully negotiating an agreement that benefits both parties. Memorial University appreciates the dedication, collaboration and contributions by all participants in this process.
As of Feb. 8, the union has advised the conciliator that they are not prepared to continue with the conciliation process. The university is disappointed, however remains committed to finding a mutually beneficial solution that addresses the concerns of both parties when LUMUN is willing to come back to the table.
The negotiation process is dynamic and the university is actively working towards finding common ground that will lead to a successful agreement. Memorial has committed to this process and will continue to keep the university community updated on any developments.
