As part of the search process for the next dean of Memorial’s Faculty of Medicine, the search committee is engaging in consultations to gather feedback from the university community and others on the opportunities, challenges, priorities and profile for the faculty and next dean. Those interested in providing input can complete the Qualtrics survey available here. The search committee for the role of dean of the Faculty of Medicine is making progress with its work.

The search committee will be supported by an external search firm. A tender was issued for the work and Perrett Laver has been selected. Memorial’s senior leadership recruitment team is also looking forward to working collaboratively with the search committee and search firm throughout applicable elements of this search.

Work has begun to develop a consultation process to gather feedback from the university community and other interested parties on the opportunities, challenges and priorities for the Faculty of Medicine, as well as the profile for the next dean. The committee will meet with the external search consultant within the next few weeks to continue this work.

Dr. Dolores McKeen is continuing as interim dean of the Faculty of Medicine until July 31, 2025, or upon completion of a successful search, whichever occurs first. Her appointment extension was approved by the Board of Regents this summer.



In accordance with the Procedures Governing the Appointment, Review, Promotion and Tenure of Academic Administrators, a search committee has been established for the role of dean of the Faculty of Medicine.

  • Alison Haynes, assistant professor of Pediatrics
  • Ken Kao, professor of Oncology, Biomedical Sciences
  • Sharon Peters, professor of Medicine
  • Patti Power, associate professor, chair, division of Gynecologic Oncology, NL Health Services, and director, Learner Well-Being and Success, Faculty of Medicine

 Appointed members:

  • Jacqueline Blundell, associate dean of Science, Research and Graduate
  • Shawn Bugden, dean, School of Pharmacy
  • Gena Bugden, vice president, Medical Services, NL Health Services
  • Kyle Ivany, MUNSU Medicine student representative
  • Jennifer Lokash, provost and vice-president (academic) pro tempore, chair Studies professor, Department of Psychology
