Interim dean receives prestigious honour
Dr. Sulaimon Giwa, interim dean and associate professor, School of Social Work, has been elected to the Royal Society of Canada’s College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists (RSC) — one of the nation’s highest scholarly honours.
Dr. Giwa is recognized worldwide for his community-engaged research in forensic social work, race and sexuality, and the effects of structural racism on racialized and LGBTQ people.
Dr. Giwa receives this prestigious award along with three other Memorial University colleagues: Drs. Carissa Brown, associate professor, Department of Geography, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; Christine Carter, associate professor, School of Music; and Mark Stoddart, professor and acting head, Department of Sociology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
