Who Can Apply?
The Interdisciplinary Humanities Program is always looking for passionate thinkers with varied backgrounds and experiences to join its community of inquirers.
Applications to the Humanities Program are considered holistically. This means all aspects of each application are considered. Your GPA or grade average is not the sole entry determinate. There is no GPA or grade average cut off. A transcript marred by a bad or difficult year does not affect your opportunity to join us. It is understood that people come to graduate education from a range of life paths and from different circumstances.
What matters is breadth of life experiences, community engagement, passionate writing and interdisciplinary commitment. The program welcomes all educational backgrounds, ages, gender orientations and abilities. A demonstrated capacity for research and writing is essential. Passion and commitment are required.
Those who join the Interdisciplinary Humanities Program usually have an undergraduate background in a humanities or social sciences discipline. This includes but is not restricted to: history, philosophy, art history, literature, languages, religious studies, political science, cultural anthropology, sociology, gender studies and communications.
If this isn’t you, then there may still be a place for you. The program offers places to those from different backgrounds who crave new intellectual vistas. The Program is a place to pivot to humanities from engineering, medicine, management or economics. The program is a place for mature individuals with years of work experience to explore new directions.
The Program Director and Advisory Committee begin considering applications in late February. But, late applications are always welcomed and given equal consideration. Admissions decisions are made on an ongoing basis until the end of June for a September program start.
