Isotope Ratio Analysis
LA-MC-ICPMS allows for high-precision measurement of radiogenic isotopic ratios in solid samples, where the data can be used for geochronology or isotopic fingerprinting. Routine measurements done in the lab include Hf isotopes in zircons and Nd isotopes in accessory minerals. Quality control is monitored through the use of matrix-matched reference materials where possible.
While this lab mainly focuses on laser ablation of solid samples, isotopic analyses of solutions can also be performed for samples that have gone
through digestion and column chemistry. Examples include whole rock hafnium and Sr isotopes in teeth.
