Material Characterization
The facility has six instruments to cover for a wide range of applications.
- Thermoanalytical techniques, such as Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), measure heat flow or weight change as a function of temperature and time in a controlled atmosphere (i.e. air or N2).
- Adsorption, transmission or reflectance spectroscopy, such as FT-NIR and FT-IR, are employed to determine chemical interactions among functional groups.
- Elemental analysis (service only)
Most instruments are user run with training provided by research assistants and are available 24 hours per day, seven days per week. There is also a sample service for infrequent users.
