6.4 Major in Composition with a Minor in Jazz Studies
To be considered for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Music with a Major in Composition and a Minor in Jazz Studies, a student shall comply with the School's regulations, and successfully complete a minimum of 124 credit hours, including 55 credit hours in the Core Program. The remaining 69 credit hours will be chosen as follows:

Three credit hours of Music 3140 and 3 credit hours of Music 4140;

Music 3517 or 3518, whichever course was not taken to fulfill the Core Program requirements;

Five credit hours from Music 2615, 265A/B, 3611-3613, and 3514, with a maximum of 2 credit hours from 3514;

Six credit hours from Music 3015, 3300, 3704, 4505, 4601-4603, and 4703;

Seven additional credit hours chosen from Music courses beyond the 1000 level including:

A maximum of 2 credit hours from Music 2611-2614, 2619, 2620, and 263A/B, in addition to those listed under the Core Program;

A maximum of 5 credit hours from Music 2615, 2616, 2617, 265A/B, 3500, the former 3510, 3511-3518, and 3611-3613 in addition to those listed under the Core Program;

Students interested in this Major are strongly encouraged to take Music 3100 in their second year; and

Twelve credit hours chosen from disciplines other than Music and Music Education, including at least 6 credit hours from courses in English, designated Critical Reading and Writing (CRW) courses, and/or former Research/Writing (R/W) courses.
