Alhassan Sulemana, who is a PhD social work student at Memorial University, pursued his first degree program in social work at University of Ghana from 2006-2010. He worked with Methodist Junior High School at Bolgatanga, Ghana, as a school social worker. His responsibilities were to liaise between the school and the school community, teaching staff and administration, as well as students and administration, to create an enabling environment to ensure effective teaching and learning. He pursued MPhil in social work from 2013-2016 at University of Ghana.

His work experience also includes working as a graduate assistant with the Department of Social Work of University of Ghana from 2014-2018. In 2018, he was appointed as an assistant lecturer in the same department. In addition to teaching and research, he also coordinated the fieldwork and was in charge of placement and supervision of students in the field as well as grading of fieldwork reports.

Alhassan’s research interest areas include family welfare and migration with focus on working and living conditions of internal female migrants in Ghana and the health challenges pose by these conditions. Another area is older people with focus on challenges faced by older people resulting from gradual fading of the extended family system in modern society. He has to his credit a number of publications on both migration and on older people.
