Open at Memorial

Mar 4th, 2025

To celebrate Open Education Week (March 3-7, 2025), an annual global celebration of and focus on open education organized by Open Education GlobalOpen at Memorial has profiled Memorial instructors and staff, including the School of Social Work's Dr. Ami Goulden, sharing how Open approaches support and improve their work.

The discipline of social work involves collaboration and information sharing with people outside of academia — in particular, with social work practitioners and people with relevant lived experiences. The need for that collaboration is why Dr. Ami Goulden, an assistant professor in the School of Social Work, values open access and open education. Eliminating obstacles to research and education plays an important role in broadening access to information and resources and fostering the work of her field, Dr. Goulden said.

Across Memorial's campuses, faculties and schools, instructors and educational staff are incorporating Open philosophies and approaches into their teaching, research, publishing, engagement and other scholarly activities. Open access, open publishing and open education foster public engagement and broaden access to the research and teaching work done by Memorial professionals.
