Honorary Doctor of Laws Awarded
Prof. Marion Bogo, O.C., MSW, RSW, professor at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto, will receive a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, at the Memorial University Spring Convocation on May 31, for her contribution to the development of social work education and to recognize the 50th anniversary of the founding of Memorial’s School of Social Work.
Professor Bogo is known for her remarkable achievements in the field of social work as a scholar and teacher, and for advancing the practice in Canada and abroad. She has worked in social welfare and mental health services as a frontline social worker in Montreal, Cincinnati, Ohio and Toronto. Her work has attracted international attention and she provides extensive consultation to schools of social work throughout the world as they transform their curriculum to develop effective practitioners.
Professor Bogo has been recognized for her contributions to social work education in both Canada and the United States and is the recipient of the Significant Lifetime Achievement in Social Work Education Award from the Council on Social Work Education in the United States (2013) and the Order of Canada (2014) for her contributions to social work education.
