Dr. Tsering Dolkar Watermeyer’s (she/her) journey into social work began with her work in international health and poverty alleviation projects in rural Tibet. Since then, she has worked as a research associate and program evaluator in multilateral development projects, immigrant aid organizations including projects funded by the World Bank, Canadian International Development Agency, and the Public Health Agency of Canada.
As a registered social worker (MSW) for more than 14 years, Dr. Watermeyer brings extensive clinical work experiences having worked in various acute care and outpatient programs most notably in HIV, Addictions and Mental Health. Most recently, as the Social Work Practice Educator at Providence Health Care (provincial Health Authority) in B.C. Dr. Watermeyer developed individualized learning plans, provided case conceptualization and practice supervisions through a mentorship-based approach for registered social workers in clinical settings.
Prior to joining Memorial University, Dr. Watermeyer taught social work courses at the University of British Columbia and community college. Her academic and research interests combine transdisciplinary learnings from social sciences to the development of social work theorizing, education, and professional practice. She has worked on numerous Canadian and international research initiatives and currently serves as a peer reviewer for social work and interdisciplinary journals.
Dr. Watermeyer's areas of interest broadly include indigenous groups and indigenization, diaspora studies, refugee and immigrant resettlement, Addictions & Mental Health, and development of decolonial Social Work praxis.
