Moose Hide Campaign
The Sexual Harassment Office and the Office of Indigenous Affairs are pleased to partner this year to promote the Moose Hide Campaign.
The Moose Hide Campaign is a grassroots movement founded by a father and daughter in 2011 who challenged a small group of Indigenous men and boys to gather to raise awareness of violence against Indigenous women and girls. It has grown into a national movement with all Canadians being called upon to stand against violence against women and children.
“Moose Hide Campaign Day is May 12, 2022,” said Catharyn Andersen, vice-president (Indigenous).
“Recognizing this day is important as it signifies our commitment to honouring, respecting and protecting women and children, and to taking practical steps in our collective journey of reconciliation,” said Ms. Andersen.
Rhonda Shortall, sexual harassment advisor, is encouraging members of the Memorial community to show support for this initiative by wearing a moose hide pin.
“The Moose Hide Campaign highlights the shared responsibility we all play in a violence free environment at Memorial and throughout Canada. We encourage you to wear a moose hide pin on May 12 and throughout the year,” said Ms. Shortall.
Free moose hide pins are available at the Sexual Harassment Office, Rooms 6037-6039 in the Alexander Murray Building and at Juniper House, 208 Elizabeth Ave on the St. John’s campus. At the Grenfell Campus, the Sexual Harassment Office and the Indigenous Resource Centre have pins available. Pins are also being distributed at the Marine Institute and the Labrador Campus. Please stop by one of these locations for a moose hide pin.
