December 6th Vigil
The Dec. 6th Vigil returned to an in-person event this year in the main lecture theatre of the S.J. Carew (Engineering) Building at Memorial University on Tuesday, Dec. 6th from 6-7 p.m. The vigil is held to remember the 14 women who were killed because of their gender in the Montreal Massacre in 1989 and to honour the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
This year's event was emceed by Dr. Neil Bose, interim provost and vice-president (academic), with opening remarks provided by President Vianne Timmons and the Honourable Pam Parsons, MHA for Harbour Grace - Port de Grave district and minister responsible for the Office of Women and Gender Equality. Dr. Octavia Dobre, interim dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, provided welcome remarks digitally. Ms. Lisa Faye, executive director of the St. John's Status of Women Council, provided the keynote address.
