An ad hoc committee of Senate was formed to investigate, consult, discuss, and consider inclusion of the Provincial Anthem, ‘Ode to Newfoundland’ at Memorial University’s Convocation ceremonies. The committee had its first official meeting was Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, provided periodic updates to Senate since then, and will provide a final report at the conclusion of its work. Membership includes a mix of individuals representing various key groups across the institution.

The survey on the inclusion of the Ode to Newfoundland in Memorial’s Convocation ceremonies is now closed.

Thank you to the many community members including students, alumni, donors, faculty and staff across all campuses and members of the broader community who took the time to contribute to the consultation process.

The committee is now in the analysis and report writing phase. At the end of this phase, the committee will provide a final report and recommendation to Senate where a decision will be made.

The final report will be publicly available and is intended to be presented for consideration at the April meeting of Senate.
