Resources for Units
AUP Handbook for Unit Heads
When beginning the AUP process, and while proceeding through, the unit head should regularly consult the AUP Handbook for Unit Heads. This Handbook provides details on the responsibilities and roles of the unit, potential areas for delays and how to mitigate the risk of delay, how best to use the data package, and provides advice regarding commonly asked questions.
Guide for Remote Site Visits
In July 2020, the Academic Unit Planning Committee approved a document providing guidelines to consider when planning a remote site visit. These guidelines were developed in response to disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic with the goal of ensuring academic unit planning proceeds as effectively as possible.
If you are preparing a remote site visit, please review the guidelines document.
Extension Requests - Considerations
In April 2020, the Academic Unit Planning Committee approved a AUP Considerations for Extension Requests - April 2020. This document is intended to outline the potential reasons for extensions, the consequences of delays, and strategies for avoiding the need for delays during the academic unit planning process.
Accreditation and Academic Unit Planning - Considerations
In January 2022, the Academic Unit Planning Committee approved a document providing guidance for units that are required to undergo external accreditation in addition to Academic Unit Planning. This document is intended to outline the ways in which AUP processes may be aligned with accreditation, how documentation from accreditation may be used to fulfill certain AUP requirements, and highlight considerations that should be made when determining whether this approach may be appropriate for a unit.
Considerations for Consulting Students
Academic units should always engage students in the self-study process to seek substantive feedback regarding the current situation and the direction of the unit. Student feedback should be compiled using sources and methods that are appropriate for the unit given its enrolments and available resources. When preparing to engage with students during the self-study process, units are encouraged to review the information available on the Considerations for Consultation with Students page.
Standard student survey
Academic units may wish to use existing survey information from already completed institutional student survey data to help inform sections of the self-study document. If your unit would like to discuss the results of Unit surveys already performed, please contact the CIAP office via ciap@mun.ca.
If your unit plans to develop a new survey to collect additional feedback from current or past students, such surveys require review by the Institutional Survey Oversight Committee (ISOC) as they fall within the scope of Memorial’s policy on Institutional Surveys. Please note, your unit will need to create a Qualtrics account to develop and administer the survey tool: please visit MUN Survey Solutions to create your Qualtrics account. Tutorials and assistance in using Qualtrics is available through the MUN Survey Solutions' support and training page. Once your survey tool is drafted, you must submit it to ISOC for review. If you have questions on this process, please contact the CIAP office via ciap@mun.ca.
Common data sets
The Centre for Institutional Analysis and Planning has access to common data sets which may help academic units as they proceed through the academic unit planning process. The most pertinent data sets should be provided to the academic units as they begin the academic unit planning process or as they are acquired. If your unit would like to know more information, please contact the CIAP office at ciap@mun.ca.
