Bio

Dr. Tari Ajadi is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, and Adjunct Professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland. His research compares how Black activists in municipalities across Canada strategize to build durable coalitions towards justice. As a British-Nigerian immigrant to Canada, Tari’s goal is to produce research that supports and engages with the heterogenous experiences of Black communities across the country. He is a co-author of the Defunding the Police: Defining the Way Forward for HRM report released in January 2022. In addition, he is a frequent contributor and commentator on issues facing Black communities across Canada in both local and national media outlets. He is currently working on his first monograph, Between Uprisings: Black-led Community Organizations & The Fight for Self-Determination (McGill-Queen’s University Press, forthcoming).  He holds a PhD and an MA from Dalhousie University in Canadian Politics.
