Physics 4851: Advanced Quantum Mechanics
4851 Advanced Quantum Mechanics is a continuation of PHYS 4850 that covers: density operators; unitary operators, including symmetry operations and the time-evolution operator; gauge transformations and Berry's phase; quantum mechanical entanglement; systems of identical particles.
PR: PHYS 4850 and 4820
Physics 4851 uses the foundations built in 4850 to explore topics in quantum mechanics that are relevant to current research trends, including the concept of entanglement, symmetry operations and Berry's phases. Also covered in this course are identical particles, Green's functions, path integrals and Fock space operators – essential background for students whose next step is to study quantum field theory in condensed matter physics or particle physics. All topics are introduced from first principles, so that students can apply their knowledge to other problems.
