Co-operative Internship in Physics

The Co-operative Internship in Physics (CIP) is a collaborative effort between the Department of Physics and Physical Oceanograpy, the co-operative education office for the Faculty of Science, and local, national and international employers.

CIP students complete full-time, paid practical work experiences in an internship of either 4, 8, or 12 months, in which they are registered as a full-time student, between the third and fourth years of the academic program. The longer work period allows students to become fully productive members of the organization.

Where Interns Work

CIP interns will have the opportunity to work with companies locally, provincially, and even nationally. Students apply for work term positions advertised publically, advertised through the Science Co-operative Education Office or through an independent job search.

Program Criteria

To apply for the CIP program you must

  1. Be a declared major in any program offered by the Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography.
  2. Have completed at least 15 credit hours of physics courses numbered 3000 or above prior to the start of your internship.
  3. Have obtained an overall average of 75% or higher in completed physics courses
  4. Have at least 15 credit hours of required courses remaining to be taken after the internship, of which at least 3 credit hours should be in physics courses numbered 2000 and above.

Admission to the CIP is competitive and selective. The application deadline varies each semester, but is at least four months before the internship starts.
