MUNSON peer mentor program comes full circle for two young nurses!
When soon-to-be new grad Erin Bonnell was a first-year nursing student in September of 2014, Nursing Society had started a peer mentoring program.
With School of Nursing faculty member Prof. Lynn Cooze as an advisor, the program was launched to help new students make the transition to nursing school. During four years of challenging academic and clinical experiences, students rely on their classmates and become like a family.
"Jessica Noel, a 4th year student, was mine and after she graduated we kept in touch for a little while but then lost contact for a couple of years," said Ms. Bonnell who graduates on June 1, 2018 and now works as a novice nurse in Grand Falls/Windsor. "Well guess who also moved here for work?
"I'm doing my orientation for my first nursing job and Jessica was assigned to be my mentor for my orientation shifts," she said.
"And now because of the peer mentor program from four years ago, I have a new best friend. We think it's too funny!"
Neither of them have family in the area so the pairing up has worked out for both!
