The research question for this CHRSP study was:
“What does published research literature reveal about patient perspectives on community-based primary care delivered by interprofessional teams, specifically regarding access, continuity, and other relevant aspects of quality of care? “
About the project and process:
This research project was unique for CHRSP. It was based on a topic that was identified in a national competition by a patient partner and received project funding from the CIHR SPOR Evidence Alliance. It was CHRSP’s first-ever patient-led research project in which patient leaders worked with the team at NLCAHR to answer a research question that was identified by patients themselves.
The team (patients and researchers) conducted a rapid synthesis of English-language research studies published over the past five years that looked at patient perspectives on primary care delivered by teams. They focused on patient perspectives on access to care, continuity of care, and other relevant quality of care aspects. Included studies looked at interprofessional primary care teams that included, at minimum, one primary care physician or one nurse practitioner working collaboratively with at least one other healthcare provider. The researchers then outlined a series of contextual factors to consider when applying this global evidence for use here in Newfoundland and Labrador.
