Biography/Admin History: American tall ship, built in 1960 at the Smith and Rhuland shipyard at Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, IMO 960956, 409 gross tons, a replica of the famous 1787 British vessel. Commissioned by the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film studio for the 1962 film "Mutiny on the Bounty". Launched on 27 August 1960, the vessel sailed via the Panama Canal to Tahiti for filming. Also featured in the television show "Flipper" in 1965, the film "Yellowbeard" in 1983 and "Treasure Island" in 1986. Foundered about 90 miles off North Carolina during Hurricane Sandy, 29 October 2012. Two of the 16 crew members died.
