Commissioned by the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film studio for the 1962 film "Mutiny on the Bounty". Launched on 27 August 1960, the vessel sailed via the Panama Canal to Tahiti for filming. Also featured in the television show "Flipper" in 1965, the film "Yellowbeard" in 1983 and "Treasure Island" in 1986. Foundered about 90 miles off North Carolina during Hurricane Sandy, 29 October 2012.
