Dr. Sevtap Savas

Dr. Sevtap Savas’ primary interest is the medical and social patient outcomes and their predictors in cancer.

For this purpose, she and her team work on patient-related genetic, social, and socioeconomic data. They conduct statistical, computational, or qualitative analyses using these data to address new research questions.

Dr. Savas’ long-term expertise is in genetic indicators of cancer outcomes. She and her team have conducted a number of studies on colorectal cancer. Currently, she is a part of the Atlantic Cancer Consortium and co-lead an omics project on colorectal cancer.

In the last few years, she has also started to work on social justice issues, including stigma and discrimination that may be experienced by cancer patients. They have completed one study in the NL population and are currently conducting another, more comprehensive one in the same population, and soon will start working on social experiences of individuals affected by pediatric cancers.

She has also extended her expertise to public engagement and outreach. She started the Public Interest Group on Cancer Research in 2021. Together with public members and other colleagues in the group, her team generates both scholarly and public knowledge about cancer, cancer lived experiences and public engagement.
In early 2024, she also created the Patient Advisory Committee for the Atlantic Cancer Consortium.
