Welcome to Obstetrics and Gynecology at Memorial University!

Our five-year accredited program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada prides itself on its small size and resulting personal interactions amongst staff and residents. Mentorship between residents and staff and between senior and junior residents is a highlight of this program. We are fortunate to have a multifaceted training program that focuses on academic and surgical excellence, resident research and community experiences as well as global health. We are proud to have a strong simulation program for training in the management of rare emergent situations, and we have a skills lab to improve techniques in minimally invasive surgery. In the past year, in collaboration with our residents, we have implemented a night float system to cut back on 24-hour call shifts. This has been very well received! We have also implemented a senior and junior rotation in obstetrics offering early surgical and clinical experience for the junior resident while allowing the senior resident to teach and consolidate their skills.

Our program encompasses areas of Obstetrics and Gynecology including; Maternal Fetal Medicine, Gynecology Oncology, Urogynecology, Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, Gender Diverse Care, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, wards, OR, ER and clinics. Additional rotations; include, ICU, Research, Electives and Selective (community and out-of-province).

Our goal is to train well-rounded, competent, and ethical clinicians and surgeons. Our residents, take pride in their skills and knowledge and will advocate for women's health and for gender diverse health care through their future practices across Canada and beyond.
